Summer travel season is here, which means suitcases are coming out of closets and vacation plans are making their way onto calendars.
Before you head out of town, it may be worth spending ten extra minutes preparing your home.
Here are a few simple things many homeowners do before leaving:
1. Put a few lights on timers.
A home that looks lived in is often better than one that looks empty.
2. Pause deliveries if you'll be gone for a while.
Packages and newspapers piling up can quickly signal that nobody is home.
3. Ask a neighbor to keep an eye out.
Good neighbors are still one of the best security systems around.
4. Double-check gates, sheds, and side yards.
It's easy to focus on the front door and forget everything else.
5. Avoid announcing travel dates publicly.
Vacation photos are wonderful. Sharing them after you return home is often even better.
Most of us spend weeks planning a trip and only minutes preparing our homes for our absence. A little preparation before you leave can make coming home much more relaxing.
Safe travels this summer.
Warmly,
